How LEGO Pieced Us Together

Our love story all began with a LEGO wish and ended with a forever love.
From heartbreak to rebuilding, a simple LEGO set pieced two adult fans of LEGO together.

In 2014, LEGO released the Trevi Fountain set. It was unlike anything I had seen before—so detailed, so beautiful, so full of history. I remember posting online that day, wishing one day I would have it. It was a simple wish, but it carried a spark of wonder in my heart.

It’s LEGO 21020 Trevi Fountain that pieced us together.

A year later, my then-boyfriend surprised me with the very same set. I was thrilled, and I built it, piece by piece. But just like those fragile bricks, that relationship eventually fell apart. The set was left in pieces, a quiet reflection of the heartbreak I felt.

One day, in the middle of that sadness, I decided to rebuild it—not for him, not for us, but for me. I pieced it together again and posted a photo with words that came from deep within:
“Maybe it’s not always about trying to fix something broken. Maybe it’s about starting over and creating something better.”

Rebuilding the LEGO Trevi Fountain set.

Little did I know, that post would change my life forever.

Somewhere across the screen, someone I didn’t even know well saw it. He wasn’t even active on social media, but for some reason, that day, he logged in. He saw my Trevi Fountain and my words—and something in them touched him.

That man was destined to be my husband.

We started talking, first about LEGO, then about life. Conversations turned into friendship, friendship into love. At the time, I was still in school, and we lived hundreds of miles apart. Distance tested us, but it couldn’t weaken what we were building—something stronger than plastic bricks, something real.

Years passed, and our love only grew. Then one magical day, six years after he first saw my post, he took me to Rome. We stood in front of the real Trevi Fountain, the one I had admired for so long in LEGO form, and there he asked me the most important question of my life. He proposed, and I said yes, with tears in my eyes and joy in my heart.

When we married, it was only fitting that LEGO was there with us—woven into little details of our wedding, a symbol of what brought us together.

Looking back, I realize LEGO didn’t just give us sets to build. It gave us a way to find each other, a way to build a life together, one brick, one memory, one moment at a time.

And this is just the beginning of our story.
